消化系統學包含基礎與臨床消化醫學，基礎醫學由生理學，病理組織學與藥理學組成，臨床醫學包括胃腸、肝臟、膽胰各類疾病教學，放射診斷學，消化系統診斷儀器介紹，介入性診斷及治療方式與PBL課程。學生經由基礎整合課程，熟悉消化系統基本知識，再導入臨床消化系統疾病相關課程，從中學習消化系統病理生理學，病史詢問，理學檢查，檢驗檢查判讀，鑑別診斷及疾病治療。

消化系統課程共五週，課程設計包含基礎與臨床醫學的整合，以循序漸近的方式進行。在課程前2-3週，介紹與消化系統相關的基礎醫學，有生理、藥理、病理組織、與胚胎等學科；此課程進一步銜接後續以消化系統內科與外科為主的臨床課程。第五週的課程，規劃以問題導向學習(PBL)小組教學方式，翻轉教室，結合理學檢查與臨床技能，並輔以診斷儀器與介入性治療介紹，建立學生基礎與臨床觀念的整合，利用同儕小組討論與團隊導向學習，培養學生主動、積極、多元、獨立思考的學習精神，增進學生溝通及獨立思考的能力。
